Matthew Rhys became the first performer to win two lead acting Emmy awards in a single night, BBC News reported. The Welsh actor was honoured for the supernatural comedy Widow’s Bay and the psychological thriller The Beast in Me at the United States television ceremony. He won lead actor in a limited series for The Beast in Me and lead actor in a comedy for Widow’s Bay. The BBC distinguished the double victory from earlier occasions when performers had received nominations in two lead categories during the same year. Rhys dedicated one of his awards to the people of Wales and acknowledged his background in Welsh as well as English. He attended with his partner Keri Russell, who was also an Emmy nominee. The Beast in Me features Claire Danes as a grieving writer drawn toward a mysterious neighbour suspected of murder. The ceremony also recognised Jean Smart, Allison Janney and Stephen Colbert and presented Michael J. Fox with a humanitarian honour, according to the report.
