Chris Brown received an eight-month prison sentence suspended for a year over an attack at a London nightclub, BBC News reported from Southwark Crown Court. The singer, aged 37, had pleaded guilty in July to affray following the 2023 incident in Mayfair. Music producer Abe Diaw needed hospital treatment for injuries to his head and knee. CCTV shown in connection with the case recorded Brown striking Diaw on the head with a glass bottle. Judge Tony Baumgartner described repeated use of a bottle as dangerous and characterised the confrontation as brief but intense. Brown’s co-defendant, vocal coach Omololu Akinlolu, received a four-month sentence, also suspended for a year. Akinlolu had likewise admitted affray. The BBC’s live report distinguished the suspended custodial terms from immediate imprisonment: the court did not send either defendant directly to prison at sentencing. The report included the release of annotated Metropolitan Police footage and coverage of the defence arguments about the short duration of the confrontation.
