Jessica Biel joined the Searchlight Pictures film Playmates, Variety reported, alongside previously announced cast members Lily-Rose Depp, Bill Pullman and Indiana Elle. The production was set to mark Lorraine Nicholson’s feature writing and directing debut. Its story follows Elle, a thirteen-year-old who treats the Playboy Mansion as a second home, and Anna, one of seven women competing to become Playmate of the Month. Their unexpected friendship develops as each tries to help the other obtain something she wants. Biel was cast as the wife of Hugh Hefner, played by Pullman. Variety explicitly clarified that Biel’s character is fictional rather than a portrayal of one of Hefner’s real spouses. Alex Orlovsky and Duncan Montgomery were producing through High Frequency Entertainment, with Depp also serving as a producer. The report reviewed Biel’s experience both in front of and behind the camera, including The Sinner, Candy and The Better Sister. Her performance in The Sinner earned nominations at both the Emmy and Golden Globe awards.
