Anadolu Agency reported that eight inmates were killed in two separate Ecuador prison riots on October 22, citing the national prison authority SNAI. Four deaths occurred at a prison in Latacunga and four at El Inca prison in Quito. Ten other people were injured and receiving medical care, according to the authority. SNAI said alleged participants had been identified and would be transferred to the maximum-security El Encuentro facility in Santa Elena province. Law enforcement operations were continuing at the affected prisons to restore order. These were prison riots, not street demonstrations.
