Reuters reported that Jakarta police detained 322 people after an August 27 demonstration near parliament was followed by late-night rioting. Police spokesperson Budi Hermanto said 160 detainees were younger than 18 and 45 people were named suspects. Local media described fires involving a police post and motorcycles, blocked roads and projectiles thrown at officers. Police used water cannon and tear gas. Officers distinguished the later disorder from the main rally, which had dispersed. Police also said a man evacuated after losing consciousness later died in hospital, while officials continued gathering facts. The report did not establish the cause of death.
