He sold you a course on freedom from a rented Lamborghini.
You’ve seen him. Maybe a hundred times, scrolling late at night. Standing in front of a private jet he didn’t board. Talking about “mindset” and “the 1%” while a countdown timer ticks under a discount that never actually expires. He is not an entrepreneur. He is a character — and the business is you.
The product is never the product
The “course,” the “mastermind,” the “mentorship” — none of that is what’s being sold. What’s being sold is a feeling: the fantasy that you are one payment away from escaping an ordinary life. The content inside is almost always free information you could find in an afternoon. You’re not paying for knowledge. You’re paying for permission to hope.
How the machine actually runs
It’s a funnel, and every part of it is engineered. The free video hooks you. The “value” builds trust. The scarcity (“only 12 spots left!”) creates panic. The testimonials — often other people in the same funnel — create proof. By the time you reach the checkout, you’re not making a decision. You’re completing a sequence someone designed months ago.
The recruitment trap
The darkest layer is when the “opportunity” turns you into the salesperson. Suddenly your success depends on bringing in others, who bring in others. That’s not a business model — it’s a pyramid wearing an entrepreneurship costume. The people at the top get rich. Everyone below buys the dream and inherits the debt.
The one question that breaks the spell
Ask it every time: “If this really worked as advertised, why does he need my money more than he needs to just do it himself?” Real operators are usually too busy operating to sell you the secret. The loudest “gurus” make their money from the sale of the secret — not the secret itself.
Freedom doesn’t come with a countdown timer. And anyone selling it in three easy installments is telling you exactly who the customer is.
